A standard drawer box is built from three parts:
- Outer sleeve — printed wrap on greyboard, open on both ends so the inner tray can slide.
- Inner tray — wrap + greyboard, slightly smaller than the sleeve on every side. Often wrapped with a soft-touch or specialty paper interior.
- Insert — EVA foam, paperboard tray, or fabric liner that holds the product.
The most common failure with cheap drawer boxes is a tray that fits too loose (it rattles) or too tight (it sticks). At our factory the sleeve-tray fit is dialed in on the prototype so the tray slides with light friction and stays put at any travel position.
