A luxury rigid candle box with foam insert is a greyboard box built to hold a glass candle jar centred and cushioned through courier handling. Candle brands use it because a damaged jar or a rattling lid ruins the unboxing, and the rigid build is what customers keep on the shelf. This guide covers the structure, the insert and the MOQ behind a 100-piece run.

Why candles need a rigid box

A glass candle jar is heavy, fragile and top-loaded, so it needs side and base support a folding carton struggles to give. A rigid box built on 1000 to 1500 gsm greyboard keeps the jar from shifting, and a foam or paperboard insert centres it so the lid never rattles. Candle brands also ship into gifting seasons where the box is the presentation, not just the mailer. Our candle breakage case study covers the transit-damage math.

Inserts: foam vs paperboard

The insert is what protects the jar. For a single standard jar we use a die-cut EVA foam block with a cavity to the jar diameter, or a paperboard tray with a die-cut well for lighter jars. EVA absorbs shock best for glass and reads premium with a soft top layer; paperboard is the lighter, lower-cost choice for domestic shipping. For a jar plus a matchbox or card, a paperboard tray with two wells keeps both items apart.

Materials and branding

We wrap the greyboard in 157 gsm coated art paper, a soft-touch matte laminate, or recycled kraft for eco-leaning candle brands. Branding is usually a foil-stamped logo on the lid, often in gold or copper to match the wax, with an embossed wordmark as a second cue. Inside the lid we can hot-stamp a care line or leave it plain.

MOQ, lead time and what you get

Candle box styles start at MOQ 100 pieces. Lead time is 7 to 12 working days after artwork approval. We supply a free dieline with the quote, a free plain-white sample for structure check, and a paid logo sample if you want the real material and finish. Pricing scales at 100 / 500 / 1000 / 5000 tiers.

Common pitfalls before you order

The common candle-box issue is an insert cavity that is a fraction too tight, so the jar scrapes the foam on the way in, or too loose, so it rattles. We size the cavity to the exact jar diameter and height you give us, and we ask for the lid height so the box depth is right the first time. See our rigid vs folding guide if you are deciding between the two.

Frequently asked questions

What insert holds a candle jar in a rigid box?

For glass jars we use a die-cut EVA foam block with a cavity cut to the jar diameter, or a paperboard tray with a die-cut well for lighter jars. The insert centres the jar so the lid never rattles in transit.

What is the MOQ for a luxury rigid candle box?

MOQ is 100 pieces from our Guangzhou factory, with a 7 to 12 working day lead time after artwork approval and a free dieline supplied with the quote.

Can a candle box ship flat?

Only the collapsible magnetic style ships flat and assembles in about ten seconds. The lid-off and drawer candle boxes ship assembled because the rigid corners are glued.
