If you run a small US business and search "best packaging suppliers," you'll get a mix of domestic printers, marketplaces, and overseas factories. The honest answer is that there is no single "best" — there is what fits your volume, budget, and how much logistics you want to touch.
Option A: A US-based printer or broker
US printers are fast and easy to talk to, and you avoid importing. The trade-off is price and MOQ: domestic short-run printing on custom structures is expensive per unit, and many still ask for 500–1,000 pieces. For a brand testing a new SKU, that ties up cash.
Option B: A direct overseas factory (what we are)
Ecopaperbox is a custom packaging factory in Guangzhou, China, with in-house offset printing. We work with US small businesses directly — no US middleman, no marketplace markup. Two things make this realistic for small brands:
- MOQ 100 pieces. You can launch a custom box at the same volume a domestic printer would reject.
- DDP door-to-door. We quote Delivered Duty Paid: freight and US import duty are in the price, landed at your door. You are not decoding a bill of lading or a customs invoice.
What "direct factory" actually saves you
A US broker who sources from a Chinese factory adds a margin on top of the factory price. Going direct removes that layer. The unit cost at 100–5,000 pieces from a Guangzhou factory is typically well below a US short-run printer, even after sea or air freight and duty are included — because the printing and tooling happen where the board is made.
Lead time, honestly
Production is 7–12 working days after artwork approval. Sea freight to the US West Coast runs roughly 12–18 days; East Coast a bit longer; air or express is faster but costs more. For 100–500 pieces, express often makes sense and still beats domestic pricing. This is slower than clicking "ship today" at a US printer, and that is the real trade-off to weigh.
How to choose without getting burned
- Get the all-in DDP quote, not an EXW or FOB price that hides freight and duty.
- Ask for a white blank mock-up (structure, no print) before committing to a printed run — we send these free.
- Confirm the factory can show real plant photos and has its own printing, not just a trading office.
- Start at 100 pieces; scale only after a real unboxing test.
