What Is a Sheet Mask Packaging Box?
A sheet mask box is a secondary carton for a product that is already sealed in a foil sachet. That changes the brief completely: the box is not protecting anything fragile, so its job is shelf presence, multi-language compliance text and holding a stack of flat, slippery sachets without the pack collapsing or looking half-empty.
Individual masks are usually sold in cartons of 5, 7, 10 or 30. A single sachet is 100-130mm square and roughly 3mm thick, so a 10-pack carton is a shallow flat box in which the contents provide almost no structural support - the board has to hold the shape on its own. That is why 350gsm is a floor rather than a comfortable default, and why a tuck-top or lock-bottom build is preferred to a plain tuck end.
Sheet masks are also one of the most export-heavy categories in beauty, moving between Korea, Japan, China, the EU and North America. That means multi-language ingredient panels, region-specific claim wording and, increasingly, a recyclability mark on the carton even though the sachet itself is a multilayer foil.
Which Industries Use This Box, and How It Is Specified
Pack count and channel determine the build here far more than the formulation does.
| Industry / use case | How we normally spec it |
|---|---|
| Single mask retail carton | Slim 350gsm carton for one sachet, usually with a hanging hole for peg display. |
| 5, 7 and 10-piece boxes | Tuck-top or lock-bottom carton on 350-400gsm - the standard subscription and gifting format. |
| 30-piece daily mask boxes | Deeper carton with a reinforced bottom, often with a tuck-top dispenser opening on the front face. |
| Variety and multi-formula sets | Compartmented tray or printed dividers so each formula stays identified inside one outer box. |
| Hotel, spa and amenity | Plain or lightly branded kraft carton in bulk, prioritising cost over finish. |
| Premium and gift positioning | Sleeve-and-tray build or a rigid lid and base box for holiday sets and department store distribution. |
A common error is sizing the carton to the sachet stack with no allowance. Foil sachets are slippery and settle unevenly; leave 2-3mm of vertical allowance or the last sachet will not go in cleanly on the packing line.
Material Specification
Nothing inside the box needs protecting, so the entire material decision is about self-supporting stiffness and print quality.
| Component / stock | Specification |
|---|---|
| SBS / C1S board 300-400gsm | Virgin bleached board with a coated face. The default for colour cosmetics because it holds a true white and reproduces skin tones and shade swatches accurately. |
| FBB (GC1) 300-400gsm | Stiffer than SBS at the same weight, so it is often the cheaper way to reach the rigidity a tall narrow carton needs. |
| Metallised and pearlescent board | Silver or gold metallised polyester-laminated board, or pearlescent stock. Used for prestige lines, but it is not kerbside recyclable - a metallic ink or foil on plain board is the recyclable alternative. |
| Recycled CCNB / kraft | 80-100% recycled fibre for clean-beauty and refill lines where the visual story is honesty rather than gloss. |
| Inner fitment | Die-cut paperboard cavity, corrugated collar or moulded pulp cradle sized to the primary pack. Paperboard keeps the carton mono-material. |
| Coatings and inks | Soft-touch, matte or gloss laminate, or water-based aqueous varnish. Aqueous is the only finish that leaves the carton fully recyclable. Soy-based inks as standard. |
Sustainability notes
- Aqueous varnish instead of film lamination is the single biggest recyclability win on a cosmetic carton. Soft-touch film looks premium but adds a plastic layer the mill has to separate.
- A die-cut paperboard fitment replaces the EVA or PET tray that most cosmetic cartons still use, and keeps the whole pack in one material stream.
- Metallic effects can be achieved with metallic ink or a small foil area instead of a fully metallised board, which keeps the carton recyclable.
- Recycled CCNB and kraft stocks carry 80-100% recycled fibre and are increasingly what clean-beauty buyers specify.
- Right-sizing matters more than material: cutting 5mm of headspace off a carton across a full range removes more board than any stock switch.
- The foil sachet cannot currently be recycled in most kerbside systems, so the carton is the part of the pack where a genuine claim can be made. Uncoated recycled board with aqueous varnish is the honest specification here.
Structure and Size Options
Shallow flat cartons live or die on how the bottom is built and how the box opens.
| Option | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Carton style | Tuck top with a lock bottom for multi-packs, straight tuck end for single-sachet cartons. |
| Dispenser opening | Perforated tear-out on the front face for 30-piece daily boxes so the customer pulls one mask at a time. |
| Board weight | 350gsm minimum on multi-packs, 400gsm where the box is wide and shallow, because the contents give no support to the panels. |
| Hanging hole | Euro slot or round peg hole for single-mask cartons in pharmacy and drugstore channels. |
| Multi-language panels | Extended back panel or a fold-out flap for KR, JP, EN and EU ingredient text on the same carton. |
| Finish | Soft-touch matte is the category norm; aqueous varnish on recycled board suits clean-beauty positioning and keeps the carton recyclable. |
If the box is going into a subscription or e-commerce channel rather than retail, tell us at dieline stage. The optimal build is different - a mailer-friendly lock bottom rather than a display-oriented tuck top.
Printing and Finishing
- Offset CMYK - photographic artwork, gradients and product imagery.
- Pantone spot colour - exact brand colour matching, up to 6 colours plus varnish.
- Digital printing - the reason we can hold MOQ at 100; no plate cost on short runs.
- Hot foil stamping - gold, silver, rose gold, holographic. The most requested logo finish.
- Emboss / deboss - raised or recessed logo, with or without foil.
- Spot UV - gloss varnish over a matte laminate to pick out a logo or pattern.
- Finishes - matte, gloss, soft-touch, anti-scratch lamination or aqueous varnish.

Packing Method For Corrugated Packaging:
Generally no need to put the PE bags inside of the cartons. Since the boxes are glued a layer of cardboard, generally production time is not long enough to dry the paper box. If you tie the PE bags, the steamed water pearl will be produced inside of the bags.

Frequently Asked Questions
What board weight does a sheet mask box need?
350gsm is the minimum for multi-packs and 400gsm where the box is wide and shallow. Foil sachets give the carton no structural support at all, so unlike a bottle carton the board has to hold the shape entirely on its own. Under-specifying here produces a box that looks dented before it reaches the shelf.
How much space should I allow for 10 sachets?
Measure the actual stack and add 2-3mm of vertical allowance. Foil sachets are slippery and settle unevenly, so a carton cut to the exact stack height will reject the last sachet on a hand-packing line - a small tolerance that costs real time in production.
Can one carton carry Korean, Japanese and EU ingredient text?
Yes. We normally use an extended back panel or a fold-out flap laid out on the dieline. It is planned before design starts, because the panel that looks generous flat becomes tight once creases and glue flaps are subtracted, and regulatory text cannot sit within 3mm of a fold.
Is a sheet mask pack recyclable?
The carton can be; the foil sachet generally is not, because it is a multilayer laminate. The honest specification is recycled board with aqueous varnish rather than film lamination, and a recycling mark that refers clearly to the carton only.
What is the best build for a 30-piece daily mask box?
A deeper carton with a lock bottom and a perforated tear-out dispenser opening on the front face. The lock bottom carries the weight of a full stack, and the tear-out lets the customer pull one mask at a time without the box losing its shape.
What is your MOQ and lead time?
100 pcs per design and per size, with 8-12 working days production after artwork and sample sign-off. The dieline is free. If you are launching several formulas, run them on one shared dieline and you pay tooling only once for the whole range.
