What Is a Kraft Paper Gift Box?
A kraft gift box is any gift box finished in unbleached brown kraft paper rather than a bleached white stock. The word describes the surface, not the structure, and that is the source of most of the confusion when buyers request a quote: two boxes both described as "kraft gift box" can be completely different products at completely different prices.
There are two real builds. A folding kraft box is printed and die-cut from a single 300-400gsm kraft board, ships flat and is erected by you - low cost, light in the hand, correct for volume. A rigid kraft box is 1.5-2mm greyboard wrapped in 120-140gsm kraft paper, arrives assembled and feels substantial. Decide which one you actually mean before comparing prices.
The second thing to settle is print. Kraft absorbs ink, so CMYK photography prints dull and muddy on brown stock - the result almost never matches the on-screen proof. The treatments that genuinely look right on kraft are 1-2 Pantone spot colours, opaque white ink, blind emboss and foil. Design to that constraint and kraft looks deliberate; ignore it and it looks like a printing fault.

Material Specification
Kraft is a paper surface, so the material sheet has to state both the structural stock and the kraft facing. A quote that only says "kraft" has not specified the box.

Sustainability notes
- Uncoated kraft is one of the few packaging surfaces that needs no varnish or film at all, which makes it kerbside-recyclable by default.
- Unbleached fibre skips the bleaching stage entirely, so the stock carries a lower processing footprint than white board of the same weight.
- Kraft board takes 30-100% recycled content; the darker the brown, the higher the recycled fraction usually is.
- Blind emboss and 1-colour print use far less ink coverage than full CMYK, which is a small but real reduction across a long run.
- Avoid film-laminating kraft. It removes the tactile quality that made you choose kraft in the first place and breaks the recyclability claim at the same time.
