What Is a Vitamin Display Box with a Window?
A vitamin display box with a window is a supplement carton that does two jobs at once: it protects and labels a bottle, blister or gummy pouch, and it presents it on a shelf with the product visible through a die-cut aperture. In the supplement category that visibility does real work - format and count are the two things buyers check first, and a window answers both without the pack being picked up.
The complication is light. A lot of active ingredients degrade under UV exposure: vitamin B2, vitamin D, vitamin A, folic acid, probiotics and most oils. If the primary container is clear glass or clear PET, a window on the carton removes the protection the carton was giving. With an amber bottle or an opaque foil blister, the window is harmless.
The second consideration is the regulatory panel. Supplements are regulated as food in most markets, not medicine, so the mandatory content is a Supplement Facts or nutrition panel, ingredient list, serving size, warnings and a statutory disclaimer. It is less dense than a medicine carton but it still needs a properly planned panel, and it cannot be squeezed into whatever space the window leaves.
Which Industries Use This Box, and How It Is Specified
Supplement cartons are quoted by dose format, because the format decides both the fitment and whether a window is safe.
| Industry / use case | How we normally spec it |
|---|---|
| Tablet and capsule bottles | Tall carton in 350-400gsm board with a window down one face. Safe with an amber or opaque bottle; reconsider with clear PET. |
| Gummy vitamins | Window is close to essential - shape and colour are the whole product story. Usually paired with a resealable pouch inside. |
| Blister-packed supplements | Reverse tuck end sized to the blister with a leaflet allowance, window optional since the foil blocks light anyway. |
| Sachet and stick packs | Slim carton with a top-face window showing the stack of sachets, plus a count callout on the front. |
| Sports nutrition and protein | Larger carton, heavier board, strong colour blocking. Window used less often because the product is powder. |
| Pharmacy and health-store counter display | Counter display carton holding 6-12 units, with the display face printed and the units visible through a cut-away front. |
Tell us the primary container. A clear PET bottle plus a carton window equals no light protection at all, and that is a shelf-life problem rather than a packaging preference.
Material Specification
Supplement cartons sit between food and pharma. We specify them to pharmaceutical standards because the cost difference is small and the compliance risk is not.
| Component / stock | Specification |
|---|---|
| Virgin SBS / C1S 300-350gsm | Bleached virgin fibre with a coated face. Virgin stock is the norm for medicine cartons because recycled fibre can carry mineral oil residues (MOSH/MOAH) from old newsprint ink, which is the one contamination route regulators care about on a carton that sits against a blister. |
| FBB (GC1) 300-400gsm | Multi-ply virgin board, stiffer than SBS at the same weight. Used when a tall narrow carton has to stay square on a pharmacy shelf without going up in grammage. |
| Low-migration inks | EuPIA-compliant low-migration UV or water-based inks. Standard commercial UV ink is not acceptable on pharmaceutical cartons - it is the single most common compliance failure we see on artwork brought over from a general printer. |
| Braille embossing | Grade 1 Braille to EN 15823, minimum 0.12mm dot height, embossed after printing. Mandatory on human medicine cartons sold in the EU and increasingly requested elsewhere. |
| Tamper evidence | Glue-flap tear tabs, perforated first-open panels or a tamper-evident seal label. Required under EU FMD for prescription products. |
| Coatings | Water-based aqueous varnish. Film lamination is avoided on pharma cartons because it complicates recycling and can interfere with Braille dot height. |
Sustainability notes
- Virgin fibre is specified for a compliance reason rather than a quality one - recycled board can carry mineral oil residues, which is why medicine cartons stay on virgin stock even when the rest of a range moves to recycled.
- Aqueous varnish instead of film lamination keeps the carton kerbside-recyclable and, on Braille cartons, avoids flattening the dot height.
- Cartons ship and store flat, so a container carries several times more empty cartons than any pre-formed pack - a straightforward freight saving per unit.
- Right-sizing the carton to the blister or bottle is the largest single board saving available, and it also cuts secondary and pallet volume.
- Water-based glue and soy-based inks are standard across the line, with no solvent-based adhesive used anywhere.
Structure, Window and Display Options
Window shape and position change the panel space available for the mandatory nutrition information, so they are decided together, not separately.
| Option | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Window position | Front face for shelf visibility, side face where the front panel is needed for regulatory text, or a shaped window cut to the product silhouette. |
| Window film | PET as standard for clarity and rigidity. A UV-filtering film is available where a window is wanted on a light-sensitive product. |
| Closure | Reverse tuck end for machine filling, straight tuck end for a clean back panel, or auto-bottom where a heavier bottle needs a stronger base. |
| Fitment | Die-cut paperboard collar or partition so a bottle does not rattle. Paperboard rather than foam keeps the carton mono-material. |
| Hang hole | Euro slot with a reinforced top panel for peg display in health stores and pharmacies. |
| Counter display | Matching counter display unit holding 6-12 cartons, shipped flat and assembled in store. |
If you want a window and the product is light-sensitive, the workable compromise is a small shaped window plus an amber or opaque primary container - you keep the visual cue and the shelf life.
Printing and Finishing
- Offset CMYK - photographic artwork, gradients and product imagery.
- Pantone spot colour - exact brand colour matching, up to 6 colours plus varnish.
- Digital printing - the reason we can hold MOQ at 100; no plate cost on short runs.
- Hot foil stamping - gold, silver, rose gold, holographic. The most requested logo finish.
- Emboss / deboss - raised or recessed logo, with or without foil.
- Spot UV - gloss varnish over a matte laminate to pick out a logo or pattern.
- Finishes - matte, gloss, soft-touch, anti-scratch lamination or aqueous varnish.
Ordering: MOQ, Dieline and Lead Time

| Dieline | Free. We send a print-ready structural dieline to your designer before you commit to anything. |
| Pre-production sample | Plain structural sample in 3-5 days, printed sample in 5-7 days. Sample cost is credited against the bulk order. |
| Production lead time | 10-15 working days after artwork and sample sign-off |
| Artwork format | AI or PDF, CMYK, 300dpi, 3mm bleed, fonts outlined, placed on our dieline |

Packing Method For Corrugated Packaging:
Generally no need to put the PE bags inside of the cartons. Since the boxes are glued a layer of cardboard, generally production time is not long enough to dry the paper box. If you tie the PE bags, the steamed water pearl will be produced inside of the bags.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a window damage light-sensitive vitamins?
It can, and this is the question worth asking before anything else. Vitamin B2, vitamin A, vitamin D, folic acid, probiotics and most oil-based actives degrade under UV. If the primary container is clear glass or clear PET, the carton was providing the light protection and a window removes it. With an amber bottle or a foil blister the window changes nothing, because the container is already opaque.
What has to appear on a supplement box by law?
In most markets supplements are regulated as food, not medicine. That means a Supplement Facts or nutrition panel, full ingredient list, serving size and servings per container, allergen information, warnings, storage conditions, and a statutory disclaimer in some jurisdictions - in the US, the FDA structure/function claim disclaimer. It is less dense than a medicine carton, but it still needs a planned panel rather than leftover space.
Do gummy vitamins need a window?
Practically speaking, yes. Gummies are bought on shape, colour and count, and a printed photograph is a weaker signal than the real thing. Gummies are also usually not especially light-sensitive, so the usual objection does not apply. Most gummy brands run a large front window over a resealable pouch.
Can I get a matching counter display unit?
Yes. A counter display carton holding six to twelve units, printed on the display face with the units visible through a cut-away front, shipped flat and assembled in store. It is normally quoted on the same job as the cartons so the print matches, which is worth doing - a display printed on a separate run rarely colour-matches the product cartons exactly.
Is the carton recyclable with the window in it?
The board is; the film has to be separated. A smaller window means less film and a cleaner recycling result. If you want a single-material claim, the alternative is a die-cut aperture with no film at all - workable for a blister carton where the blister itself seals the product, but not for a loose bottle.
What is the minimum order for supplement boxes?
One hundred pieces per size and per design. Supplement brands typically launch with several SKUs at low volume each, so a low per-SKU minimum matters more here than a low total. Digital print at 100 pieces; offset above roughly 3,000.
How do you stop the bottle rattling inside the carton?
A die-cut paperboard collar or partition sized to the actual bottle. We use paperboard rather than foam so the whole carton stays one material and goes into the same recycling stream. Send us the bottle - moulded bottles vary by a millimetre or two between suppliers even at the same stated volume, and that is enough to cause a rattle.
